Langley Air Force Base
Langley Air Force Base is located in Northern Hampton. The compound is 3,195 acres and was built in the year 1917. Its name came from aviation pioneer Samuel P. Langley. The facility is the oldest continuously active air force base in the United States. It is the headquarters of the Air Combat Command and has air-defense missile units. NASA's Langley Research Center is adjacent.
Fort Monroe
Fort Monroe is located on the southeast tip of the Virginia Peninsula on the site of the third fort to be erected in the English-speaking colonies over 380 years ago. Since 1973 Fort Monroe has been home to the Training And Doctrine Command, which combines the training of soldiers with the development of operational doctrine and the development and procurement of new weapons systems. Fort Monroe continues to have an important effect on the history of our nation and the Army.
Naval Weapons Station
Naval Weapons Station Yorktown
is the Navy's premier weapons facility. Located in historic Yorktown, Va., it is operated by a professional team of 2,500 highly-trained officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees. These dedicated men and women operate and maintain their Station with tremendous skill and a great deal of pride.
Fort Eustis
Fort Eustis is located on the James River at the northern tip of Newport News and only minutes from Williamsburg, Virginia. It is collocated with HQ TRADOC and the Joint Warfighting Center at Fort Monroe and Air Combat Command at Langley AFB. Across Hampton Roads is Atlantic Command at Norfolk Naval Base. Fort Eustis is the home of the US Army Transportation Corps, which includes the Transportation Center and School, the Aviation Logistics School, and the Non-commissioned Officer Academy.
U.S. Coast Guard Training Center
Located on a small peninsula near the mouth of the York River, the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center site is rich in history. The site was first used for training when the Navy established its Mine Warfare School just prior to the entry of the United States into World War II.The Coast Guard took possession in 1959, and on July 3rd the Training Center was commissioned. The mission does not stop with resident training. In 1988, the Training Center assumed the responsibilities of producing and maintaining correspondence courses and examinations for 34 resident courses.
