Riverside Health System is one of Virginia’s most comprehensive healthcare providers. As an integrated delivery system, Riverside Health System operates three acute care hospitals -- Riverside Regional Medical Center, Riverside Walter Reed Hospital and Riverside Tappahannock Hospital -- as well as the largest free-standing physical rehabilitation hospital in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Riverside Rehabilitation Institute.
The original charter for Riverside dates back to December 15, 1915. The company began as one hospital, founded by the community and built on a site at Huntington Avenue and 50th Street in Newport News, Virginia. In 1963, Riverside moved to the present 56-acre location in Newport News on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard. |

Since then, Riverside Regional Medical Center has evolved into a flagship hospital with affiliates throughout the region in every aspect of healthcare -- including multiple surgical centers, retirement communities, long-term care facilities and wellness centers.
A 570-bed facility, Riverside Regional Medical Center is the Virginia Peninsula’s most comprehensive medical facility combining the most recent computerized medical technology with a healing environment.
The peninsula leader in emergency care, Riverside opened a new Emergency Department and Level II Trauma Center in June 2004, responding to more than 57,000 emergencies annually. The 37,000 sq. ft. center, features 42 private treatment areas and digital imaging equipment.
Riverside Health System is a member of the Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) and holds a voting seat in the MSV House of Delegates. Riverside is the only hospital or health system member invited to participate as a voting member in this organization. This affiliation is evidence of Riverside’s credibility with its physician partners.
